Brighton Heights Tournament JULY 26 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars top Morningside, 12-5: With the pressure off and the heat letting up, the Juniors finished off their season tonight with a strong showing and smiles on their faces. They got extra-base hits from Antonio Mitchell (game MVP, ground-rule double into the right-field weeds), Jordan Albright (inside-the-park homerun), Malcolm Bowman (triple), Aidan Knupsky (triple) and JJ Younger (double). Bowman also wowed the crowd with an outstanding acrobatic effort on a fly to the left-field foul line. JT Shannon contributed a strong showing on the mound. Although they will not advance in the tourney, BHAA's Junior All-Stars finished their season on a high note. JULY 25 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars fall to Riverview, 11-7: Luke Calderaro was named MVP. JULY 22 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars fall to Mt. Lebanon, 13-7: Daniel Nyman was named MVP for his two-run triple. Dormont Tournament JULY 24 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars fall to Sto-Rox, 10-8: Heading into the Dormont Tourney 10u championship with a 3-0 tourney record, the Juniors rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 6-3 lead. Ahead 6-4 in the final frame, the Juniors were plagued by mental defensive errors and relinquished six runs to fall behind 10-6. They battled back in their final at-bat to draw the score closer at 10-8. Despite the heartbreak, the Juniors finished second overall and took home impressive hardware for their efforts. JULY 23 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars top Riverview, 1-0: The Juniors chalked up their third victory in Dormont to earn a place in the tourney championship tomorrow. BHAA left many runners stranded tonight, but played exceptional defense to protect a one-run lead. Isaiah Dean scored the only run of the game on an Aidan Knupsky single. Jordan Albright (game MVP) and Daniel Nyman played strong defense, and Marques Duncan made a key grab in right in the first. JT Shannon, Antonio Mitchell and Albright shared time on the mound to hold Riverview scoreless. JULY 19 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars top Bridgeville, 15-6: In their second pool game at Dormont's Pop Murray Field, the Juniors' offense was awake tonight, with hitting throughout the lineup. The biggest bang of the night was Arin Winters' first inning line drive to the left-field fence. Malcolm Bowman and Antonio Mitchell split time on the mound, striking out multiple Bridgeville batters. Catcher Aidan Knupsky (2-for-3, two runs scored, RBI, two put-outs) was named game MVP. The Juniors return to Dormont Friday night to battle Riverview. JULY 16 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars top Dormont, 4-3: The Juniors got off to a rousing 4-0 lead in the first vs. the host team in this week's Dormont Tourney. Those runs were all they needed for the win. Dormont put three on the board in the fourth and had the tying run on third in the sixth with no outs. But Jordan Albright, named game MVP, managed to pitch out of trouble for the win. JT Shannon, plagued all season by an arm injury, returned to the hill tonight and threw three scoreless innings. Elliott Tournament JULY 10 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars improve at Elliott Tournament: After falling hard to Greenfield Thursday night, the Juniors vastly and progressively improved their performance Saturday in two games at Herschel Field. They fell 7-5 to Bellevue-Avalon in a back-and-forth battle during which Luke Calderaro was named game MVP (inside-the-park homerun). Then facing Elliott-Gray, the most dominant team in the tournament, the Juniors fired on all boosters and came away with a 14-8 victory. Jordan Albright got the MVP nod in Game 2 for a 4-for-4 performance and two lights-out innings of pitching. JJ Younger was name BHAA's overall tourney MVP by Elliott officials for a strong bat in all three games. The team heads to Dormont next weekend. JULY 8 RESULTS / Junior All-Stars fall to Greenfield, 18-6: An explosive Greenfield offensive held the Juniors at bay in their opening game at the Elliott Tournament. JJ Younger was named game MVP for solid play on both sides of the ball. The Juniors return for two games on Saturday. | |||
